It could be a teacher, college senior, or a well-wisher who showed you the right path. Volunteer with us if you'd like to create that magic in somebody else's life!
Our fellows come from backgrounds where they do not have the guidance or the right exposure to join the tech industry. Your role a mentor is critical in helping them achieve their goal.
Your time of few hours a day can create a meaningful difference in someone’s life
Sharing knowledge enhances your own expertise and inculcates leadership skills
Working with people from different backgrounds increases empathy which can improve your job performance
If you have any questions or concerns, please take a look at these FAQs.
1. You are a highly motivated individual, passionate about contributing to society
2. You have high competency levels in your chosen stream and a willingness to share that expertise
3. You are interested in inculcating and strengthening your leadership skills
4. You have a Growth Mindset instead of a Fixed Mindset
You are expected to take ownership of upskilling a group of learners and get them to work on industry relevant projects by the end of the program.
You need to ensure that the learners are equipped with all technical skills needed to get a job/internship. We are currently running the program for roles in Web Development, Data Science and DevOps.
We require you to commit to interacting with the learners for a minimum of 2.5 hrs per week over a period of 6 months through:
1. Availability: We need you to be available async to clear doubts on the Slack channel and acknowledge messages of the fellows and other members
2. Provide and Receive Feedback: We would expect you to share feedback and provide inputs to improve our curriculum and processes through:
* Mentor Syncups: A space where you can meet other mentors at HVA
* 1-1s with HVA Team: Can be done when needed
3. Mindspace Commitment: While the time commitment can be managed with your work in parallel, the mentorship comes with a sense of responsibility. As a mentor, you will be looked up to and emulated by young and fresh minds looking to create a career for themselves. This is a challenging, but equally rewarding experience with quite a few mentors coming back to it for the second time :)
